Shall we smile, or just guffaw? ***** Democrats thank God for Conservatives like Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh shaking up GOP BY Michael Mcauliff DAILY NEWS WASHINGTON BUREAU WASHINGTON - Democrats are hoping a growing conservative revolt within the GOP wreaks havoc on Republicans in the 2010 elections. Republicans "are facing primaries from the right all over, and that's the only thing saving our asses," one Dem operative said of the push by fired-up fans of Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh to purge their party of moderates. "This is a big problem for the Republicans," an insider said. Some conservatives agreed. "The Democrats won not because they were brilliant but because Republicans were stupid," said presidential contender and ex-Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee. Democratic operatives point to places like California, where John McCain backer Carly Fiorina declared her Senate candidacy Wednesday. She's battling a conservative who compares himself to Hoffman. In Florida, former state House Speaker Marco Rubio is gaining traction to the right of Gov. Charlie Crist in a U.S. Senate race. There are dozens of other races Democrats point to that, at least, will cost money. Conservatives refuse to back off.. "The real power of the Republican Party right now is in a burgeoning, strong ... grass-roots movement," said Marjorie Dannenfelser, of the anti-abortion Susan B. Anthony List. "The more out of touch [the GOP leaders] are with their natural base, the more elections we'll lose[ Auf dieses Posting antworten ]
