Following on from my EDI-MAD trip report I today did the return.

Had a wonderful time in Madrid. The Intercontinental is a fine hotel.

I would have used the metro but time was short so a reasonably priced
taxi was the order of the day. Taxis are very cheap in Madrid. Works
out about 1 euro per km plus a 5 euro supplement to/from the airport.

I didn't know which terminal I was supposed to go to so guessed T1 and
was correct.

Arrived about 2 hours before departure and found the desk to check-in.
No queue of note, only about 3 people in front of me. Got boarding
sequence in the high 60's so people were here early. I assume this
was because they had been kicked out their hotel at 12pm and decided
to get to the airport early. Only complaint was when asked at
check-in what my booking reference was I told them I did not know (I
had it electronically in my works email but I wasn't telling them
that) which was met with a tut from the desk. I know it would be best
to have this number but that would mean printing it out or writing it
on a post-it. Not very green. Flying on a green airline you would
think they would understand.

No queue at security. Didn't see any signs to take my laptop out of
my bag so didn't and did not get stopped for that.

Wandered around the airport for a bit. Not much to see here. Quite
an old fashioned airport IMO but quite spacious.

Very quiet departure area so got a paper and waited for the flight to
board.

Boarding was bang on time and for the first time I saw a queue form
for the gate. No scrum, no crowd of people blocking the gate. A very
orderly queue. Vast majority of the pax were going home. I assume we
were all being very British by queuing however that doesn't tie in
with the scrums I have witnessed for EZY EDI-LTN and EDI-STN flights
in the past.

Boarding was swift but as I was in group B had to make do with 11 D
this time around as 11E/F was occupied as were the other exit rows.
Still at least it was not a middle seat and it was an exit row seat.

I expected a spanish crew but it was a LPL based crew entirely.

Service was identical to the EDI-MAD flight I had done earlier.

FLight time was in the region of 135 minutes so a good bit quicker
than the EDI flight is. Coupled with the time difference I arrived in
LPL in 75 minutes.

The walk from the plane to passport control seemed to be neverending.
A bit like getting off at the remote stands at EDI near gate 1 and
walking to the baggage reclaim area in terms of length.

Still flight was on time and the plane was of the usual high EZY
standards in both age and appearance.

Another thumbs up for EZY.

So I am now in Manchester for the next few days with the last leg
MAN-EDI on Friday.

Next week sees a return to EDI-MAN-EDI for me. The good thing for me
is that Mondays EDI-MAN leg will see me retain my BD*G until November
2009 which is nice.
