BILL SCHNOEBELEN'S DISCUSSION OF BIBLE VERSION The Athenians were just like the Israelites of Jeremiah's day. They were running around whoring after the latest "trendy thing," and forgetting the solid old truths of Scripture. As we shall see, this is a key component in the devil's arsenal of deception. Sadly, it is also true of many US Christians today. In many quarters the "old paths" are not good enough. They are always seeking something new. New can be good, but you must remember the Biblical maxim: "Prior revelation must judge later revelation." This is because Yahweh never changes: For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed. - Malachi 3:6 See also Hebrews 13:8. Much of what is out there that is "new" or "fresh" does not measure up to the canon of Scripture! "Fresh" poison will still kill you! More often than not new ideas have been marinated in the filth of modern culture (psychology, philosophy, etc.) ALL of these things can be considered to be the direct descendents of Hellenic culture, with some doses of Hinduism and other religions. Thus, one can almost say that "new" is usually not better, but worse. This, of course, runs contrary to the Darwinian notion of evolution and is therefore heresy to "up-to-date folks." Hellenizing the Scriptures? Nowhere is this more evident than in the issue of Bibles. Almost all the modern "versions" are both philosophically and linguistically connected to Alexandria! The careful student will note that the "best and oldest" manuscripts (mss.) so often cited in modern versions are Codex v. Vaticanus (from the Vatican), Codex Siniaticus (from the garbage dump of St. Catherine's monastery in the Sinai desert) and Codex Alexandrinus (from Alexandria)! On the other hand, the Authorized Version (KJV) is backed up by more than 5,000 ancient mss. Those manuscripts are from the family called the Majority Text, or Byzantine text, or Antiochian text. Antioch, of course, was the base for Paul's missionary journeys and the place where believers were first called "Christians." vi. (Acts 11:26) This stands in sharp contrast to the pedigree mentioned above of Alexandria and its text. The Athenian quest for "some new thing" has led to countless hundreds of "new, better translations" since we first began warning about this back in the early nineties. Do we really need 500 or more English Bible versions? Especially when many of them contradict each other? Without wishing to belabor this point (we deal with it in detail elsewhere vii.), everybody's "favorite" new "bible," the NIV, subtly attacks key doctrines, like the virgin birth (Luke 2:43)! It also removes condemnation of sodomites, partially because a lesbian theologian, Virginia Mollenkott, was involved in the translation committee! All of these "Bible translations" express a "low" view of Scriptural inerrancy. None of the committees behind them really believe they can hold the very Word of Yahweh in their hands. They believe only the "original autographs" (original Greek or Hebrew mss.) are inspired! The problem with this concept is that no one has seen the original autographs for centuries. Absent those, the Bible can be translated to say whatever the scholars want it to say! The ultimate absurdity of this trend is the recent appearance of the PDB, the "Princess Diana Bible." viii. While this thing is not regarded as a serious scholarly effort by anyone except a few homosexual zealots, it illustrates the problem of letting unholy hands on the text of the Scriptures. This "bible perversion" (literally) has been made to teach that heterosexuality is an abomination and that being Born Again means becoming a sodomite!! Pictures on the site show people supposedly burning King James Bibles. The name of the "bible" is a deliberate attack on the King James. Princess Diana was noted for (among other things) her support of AIDS research and homosexuals, so she is a natural "patron saint" for this abomination; just as King James was the royal patron of the Authorized Version (Eccl. 8:4)! Classic Greek culture celebrated homosexuality, so we see here the quintessential manifestation of the Hanukkah battle right here in the 21st century! While, most Bible translations are nowhere near as bad as the PDB, many of them, to a greater or lesser degree denigrate the Inspired Word and partake of an anti-Christ spirit! ix. In this day and age, you do not want such things in your home! Do you doubt the Hanukkah battle is real? Is the battle between Jerusalem and Athenian/Alexandrian philosophy still going on? Check this out. If you are in a church which uses other "versions" than the King James, ask your pastor or Sunday school teacher if that Bible is the perfect and inerrant Word of the Almighty. They will probably hem and haw and finally admit that, "No that is just in the original autographs." Face it. If you do not have the real WORD, then you have no more spiritual authority than a Mormon elder or the pope. You do not have the Sword of the Spirit, but a wet noodle! Stay away from the Alexandrian cult and stick to the Book that has stood the test of ages! It has never let us down and it will never let you down. In the so-called "culture wars," stick to your "Sword!" Accept no substitutions! i. The name Epiphanes actually means "manifestation of the Divine" ii. To Hellenize means to make after Greek culture. iii. The Menorah was the 7-branched candlestick in the Holy Place (see Exodus 25). iv. Torah literally means teaching, but it also means the Five Books of Moses. v. A codex is just the academic term for an ancient document found in book form, as opposed to being in scroll form. There is nothing wrong with the codex format per se. vi. The term in Hebrew is "Notzrim." vii. See the video "Power, Purity and Preservation" and the booklet, "Straight Talk on Bible Manuscripts," and chapter 16 in BLOOD ON THE DOORPOST all by the author, available from our ministry. viii.
