BE YE HOLY

About chance

To Know:

³I am the Lord, and there is no other; apart from me there is no God. I will
strengthen you, though you have not acknowledged me, so that from the rising
of the sun to the place of its setting men may know there is none besides
me. I am the Lord, and there is no other. I form the light and create
darkness, I bring prosperity and create disaster; I, the Lord, do all these
things.² (Isaiah 45:5-7)

Back when R.C. Sproul was teaching me to better understand the will of a
holy God, he was babysitting Dan Ledwith. That R.C. babysat Dan was not
known by the Byfield Parish Church when, three decades later, Dan was called
to be our associate pastor. On November 8, 1973, a message was given me that
the recipient believed to be from God. The first directive said, ³Commit
everything to me that I ask. Learn to trust me further.² As the years
passed, the words became more important. They became more important because
I was further and further down the road. Perhaps someday I¹ll ask R.C. if he
remembers how many babies he tended. My suspicion is that the answer will
be, not many. Perhaps apart from Dan, the answer will be none. If none is
the answer, then the chance that out of three hundred million Americans, the
one infant R.C. babysat would become my associate is mind-bending. This is
especially important knowing what R.C. would say about chance. Sproul wrote
a book he titled, ³Not a Chance.² R.C. would say pay attention Byfield
because the Lord has an important reason for leading Dan to you.
