ETERNAL LIFE IS REALLY REAL

About a never-ending future


To Know:


³For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a
building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.² (2
Cor. 5:1)



Eternity is in us. Unlike the beasts of the field, we remember the departed.
Graveyards exist in every place where men have lived on the earth. Engraved
stones stand in silent testimony to the fact that we humans crave life and
will not let death erase the memory of those whom we love. The craving for
eternal life is a hunger in our hearts.

Will our hunger for eternity an
appetite remain eternally unsatisfied? The Bible answers no. Jesus Christ is
eternal life. He gives this life to all those who give themselves to him.
The Savior himself bore witness to this immortal fact. He gave visible
testimony to the reality of eternal life by the works that he performed.
Christ¹s greatest work was accomplished by his death. On the cross, Christ
abolished death and brought life and immortality to light in the gospel.
From his grave, Christ reentered the world; never to die again. Through his
death and resurrection, Jesus became the everlasting man.




To Do:


When Jesus was with us during the days of his flesh, he was aware that his
actions would have consequences beyond the grave. We who are ³in Christ²
ought to contemplate our lives in the light of a never-ending future.
Eternal life is meant to influence all that we do and think today. Let us
discipline ourselves to ask always, ³What should I do differently, if I know
that my life will now never end?²




To Ask:


Father, protect me from the temptation to live only for the moment.
