About how salvation is free

To Know:

³you may be sure that your sin will find you out²
(Nu. 32:23).

Scripture personifies sin as a stalker. Stalkers terrify their victims.
Every once in a while someone is killed who has pleaded with the authorities
to protect them from some stalker. Moses paints a picture of sin as a person
who is now dedicated to destroy the sinner by insuring that he or she will
suffer the consequences of their evildoing. We are reminded of the word of
God to Cain. ³if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your
door; it desires to have you, but you must master it² (Gen. 4:7). Sin
doesn¹t disappear; it stalks the sinner. Like a wildcat, sin waits to pounce
on the sinner.

Humanly contrived religions are an effort to keep sin from striking. They
falsely offer freedom from the consequences of sin for a price. The price is
a contrived religious practice that gives the appearance of godliness but is
spiritually powerless. These false religions are self-directed. Paul warned
Timothy, ³But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days.
People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud,
abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love,
unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the
good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of
God having a form of godliness but denying its power² (2 Tim. 3:1-5).

Salvation is free for the believing in the name of Jesus Christ. Peter
preached, ³Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name
under heaven given to men by which we must be saved² (Acts 4:12).
