Alt.coffee is dead; long live alt.coffee (somewhere else)

Newsgroup: alt.coffee
As some of you have written or implied recently, the reasons for
returning to this place become fewer every week. At this point I read
more out of sentimental habit than for any other reason. There are
also a handful of regulars who are worth reading and who don't seem to
post anywhere else on coffee topics (you know who you are).

I think I have been pretty consistent in not replying to any of the
miscreants who have made this place so unpleasant; but, as Andy noted,
too many people just can't resist.

The moderated forums have their drawbacks, but they do a pretty good
job of filtering out blatantly antisocial personalities. Of course,
that means those troubled folks get concentrated here, where they can
play without adult supervision.

So, consider this a plea. If you have constructive contributions to
make and can get along with others, give Home-barista, Coffee Geek or
the other sites a try. It will save my ever having to look at this
place again and see the ruin it has become, and I suspect I am not the
only person who would appreciate it.

It really pains me to write this, as alt.coffee has meant so much to
me. It was the source of many friends, much of my coffee education and
my entree to SCAA. I often refer on other forums to things I learned
here. But, it isn't constructive to confuse memories with reality.
This place is just plain nasty.

Come join me elsewhere.

Marshall (sadly)
