Best freeware search engine/application.

What in your opinion, people, is the "best" freeware search engine/application. I tried MS desktop search and that's a dog. I tried Google's Desktop but I get scared of Google for the privacy issue. I'm currently trying Copernic, but it seems to have slowed my computer right down. Maybe that's because it's doing an entire drive index.
