People who are interested in what happens in the freeware wiki probably looks at the Recent changes page now and then, and it is easy to see that I made BB and HB administrators a week ago or so. They may not have realized that yet. Because of illness have have less and less time and energy to take care of the freeware wiki, so I am happy a few persons have become engaged in it. And some of them are very qualified in different areas, like security programs. Let me remind you, that I set it up when Susan declared that she would not handle a whole bunch of tasks anymore. In other words, the way we had worked, letting Susan do all the work, did not work anymore, so we should re-think the whole way we do things. If a number of people in acf want to cooperate to create a list of the best of the best in freeware we could use a wiki, which makes it a lot easier for a lot of people to do a little each without having to pass all information through a single web master. I then suggested that a wiki would be a much better way to handle a group effort, and I set one up to show how it works so people can try it and participate if they like. I negotiated with the Wikia foundation to get a free wiki in their system, which also handles wikipedia and many other wikis, and it is the most reliable and powerful wiki system we can get for free. It uses the mediawiki software, which is the most common wiki system on the web. Whatever you learn about using wikis in this wiki you can also use in thousands of other wiki systems. Anybody can set up the mediawiki system on his own computer, I did that once, and there are also many free wiki-farms on the web which use the mediawiki system, if you would like to set up your own public wiki some day. Then you have use for the knowledge you get by using this freeware wiki. The last thing I did before transferring the leadership of the wiki in other hands was to, quite undemocratically, decide which logo to use. Because I had planned to put up that logo for 6 months and wanted to see it there. The new administrators can, of course change the logo as they like now, I just wanted to see my favorite picture there before I transfer the control of the wiki to other people. It is soon time for the yearly voting procedure again, among the acf participators who support the pricelessware list initiative, and as Susan this year will not do a lot of the work, as she declared last year, it will probably become a problematic situation, which should make more acf participators re-think how this group effort is handled, and how it could be handled instead. Anyhow, the wiki I started for you is up and running, day and night, thanks to the Wikia foundation, if you would like to try it and maybe use it for the main part of the work, entering and updating program descriptions. The whole content of the wiki, or single pages, can easily be exported in xml format, and in the tar format for all the images, so it can be processed in different ways, the content can be transferred to any other mediawiki system, etc.. I wrote practical directions for how to do that on the discussion page of the main page. http://freeware.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page -- Roger J.[ Auf dieses Posting antworten ]
