Sequential compilations, burned CD's, F-ware to find early files

Nero 7 does not supply the tool needed to access earlier burned files. In
Win XP, device manager, hardware, CD/DVD drive properties file shows
volumes, and offers to "populate".  But it doesn't pop; gives only the most
recently burned
files. I don't know the correct terms to use in a google search, or how to
find in PWL.

With Win 98, or maybe it was with software with an earlier version of Nero,
it was easy to access any bunch of files.
Nero has not been very helpful in the past, so I ask here.
Suggestions for Freeware to do it would be much appreciated.
