Brown pledges protracted war in Afghanistan
Fri, 06 Nov 2009 10:38:18 GMT

shooting in Nad-e Ali district left five British soldiers
dead on Wednesday.

While the British public is more skeptical than ever about
the war in Afghanistan, UK Premier Gordon Brown has pledged
his commitment to see the war through in the war-torn
country.

In his speech in London, Brown emphasized that the UK army
"will not walk away" from Afghanistan despite the risks
posed to the British troops.

The developments come after five British soldiers were
killed by an Afghan policeman in the volatile Helmand
province on Wednesday.

Brown also argued that the main terrorist threat to the
Britain continues to emanate from the Afghanistan and
Pakistan border region.

This is while the results of a poll conducted by YouGov
shows that 57 percent of the British people thought their
troops were not winning the battle against the Taliban
militants.

At least 230 British troops have been killed since the 2001
US-led invasion of the country.

Britain has the second largest contingent in Afghanistan and
plans to deploy an additional 500 troops to the country to
boost its presence to 9,500.

Despite the presence of over 100,000 foreign troops in the
country, insurgency is at its highest level since the
invasion.

Germany defends Afghan mission amid criticism
Fri, 06 Nov 2009 08:59:11 GMT

Amid rising differences of opinion among NATO members over
handling of the war in Afghanistan, Germany says NATO is not
only on a combat mission but it also has to rebuild the war-
torn country.

A defense ministry spokesperson said the German forces are
part of a concerted reconstruction effort, which includes
improving food security and helping to rebuild the security
services in Afghanistan.

The spokesperson was reacting to criticism from the French
foreign minister, Bernard Kouchner.

Bernard Kouchner has criticized Germany for not sharing more
of the military burden. He reportedly urged Europe to
formulate a common strategy, saying the current NATO policy
in Afghanistan is not working at all.

Kouchner's outburst came as intense debate within the Obama
administration about a new strategy for Afghanistan was
underway.

Besides military fatalities, countless Afghan civilians have
been killed and many others wounded during the eight-year-
old occupation.

A government, of Israel, by Israel, and, for: Israel.
But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light:
for whatsoever doth make manifest is light. The light shineth in darkness;
and the darkness comprehended it not. The light of the body is the eye:
if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness.
If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead,
and Christ shall give thee light. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
