RE: Dumbledore was gay.

Oooookay...what was the point of this? Sex of any type was never part of
the plot of ANY of the septology, has no bearing on the outcome of any of
the books, and serves no purpose in the context of Dumbledore's character
and his actions. In book seven, we learned more about Dumbledore's past,
saw his flaws, understood some of the conflicts with which he had
struggled as a younger wizard and gained insight into his insecurities
about being lionized as a hero who is all too aware of his own weaknesses.
Rowling now asserts that Dumbledore had an unrequited crush, of sorts, on
the evil wizard Grindelwald, who, at one point had been his close friend.
Okay.

BUT WHY suddenly reveal this completely MOOT POINT a full three months
after the conclusion of the saga, or EVER, for that matter? It has no
bearing on the story, was not ever hinted at or speculated about in the
books, and adds nothing to our relationship with the books or the
character -- it doesn't explain anything -- and if it were relevant,
shouldn't it have been explicitly worked into the plot? The reason for the
end of the Dumbledore/Grindelwald friendship was already explained (with
other reasons given for the falling-out) in Harry Potter And The Deathly
Hallows back in JULY. And, yes, it has been noted by fans everywhere that
NONE of the Hogwarts staff seems to be married, have children, or involved
in any romantic relationship at the time the stories take place (save for
Lupin, after his dismissal from the school)...but their being gay,
straight, into unicorns, or of any (or no) sexual orientation whatsoever
has never been part of the stories...so why is Rowling introducing this
unnecessary tidbit now?

It's like she spent the last decade-plus crafting this intricately
detailed, incredibly back-storied tale and dozens of rich, multi-faceted
characters, published the last book with an air of 100% finality, and then
went, Oh, crap! I forgot to mention that Dumbledore was gay!
