For those of you interested in seeing the HBP film, please be aware there is a bit of bad news below: you might want to sit down... WarnerBros have announced (though even they are having a few problems getting their act together on this - see below) that there will be an 8 month delay - yes folks you heard/read that right, an 8 month delay - in releasing HBP. They've put the release date back to 17th July 2009!!! Their statement says that it's partly due to the writers' strike changing the opportunities available and that the [presumably US/European] summer is the best time to release a family film, which to me sounds like they realised that the gap created by the writers' strike meant there won't be any other childrens' films being released next July. So basically it's naked opportunistic greed vs disappointing the fans... I suppose I should be pleased a big company's being so honest for a change! On the other hand, WB were a bit late in releasing the first trailer and also stills from the film/filming (so TLC and Mugglenet say; I haven't seen what the dates were for the previous films) so it's possible they were having to rush to make the Nov 08 date and decided against that. However, WB have denied that fairly categorically: "The picture is completely, absolutely, 100% on schedule, on time. There were no delays. I've seen the movie. It is fabulous. We would have been perfectly able to have it out in November." But it does seem quite odd to suddenly decide on a delay at this stage given they've had to cancel the Royal Premiere, the first time this has happened since 1958, unless they find something else to fill the spot (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7562557.stm) However, it seems WB only just made this decision and didn't communicate it that well internally as various websites are still showing the original Nov date (eg http://harrypotter.warnerbros.co.uk/releasedates/ as at Friday 15 Aug 08 10.30am) as are some of the trailers, although ISTR one version just saying "coming later in 2008" or similar. It's not all bad news though - at least, not according to WB: "'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' will not be affected by this change. We know Harry Potter fans are eagerly anticipating seeing the final chapters unfold onscreen. In fact, the good news for them is that the gap will now be shortened between 'Half-Blood Prince' and the first part of 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.'" So they were really thinking of us when they made this decision, gee thanks...
