As your need for farmhands diminishes, and as your need to pay for skill-training and college education increases, you want to start having fewer kids - it's an economic decision. Writ large it means a big demographic shift. Unfortunately, it also means more 3rd worlders population-wise and greater concentrations of wealth. That means a less stable society.
