SIN

About blood

To read the Bible in one year, today read John 4-6

To Know:

³Then the Lord said to Cain, ŒWhere is Abel your brother?¹ He said, ŒI do
not know; am I my brother¹s keeper?¹ And the Lord said, ŒWhat have you done?
The voice of your brother¹s blood is crying to me from the ground.¹² (Gen.
4:9,10)

Spilled blood does not soak silently into the ground. Every sinner has
spilled blood. Christ died because we sinned. Before
God, sinners will be held accountable for shedding the blood of Jesus
Christ. Sin deals in death. ³The soul that sins shall die.² (Ez. 18:4) ³For
the wages of sin is deathв (Rm. 6:23) This is a just universe. Every death
is justly deserved. The cross of Christ reveals the greatness and glory of
God. The death of Jesus was the wage paid for sin. The mystery regarding the
death of Jesus was this; that it was our sin that earned him the death
penalty. Our penalty Jesus willingly paid at the price with his blood.

When Jesus came to save his people he received what they deserved. Our sin
nailed Jesus to a tree where he was left to hang until he was dead. On that
day, Christ¹s blood ran down the stake and into the ground. When Cain killed
Abel, the murdered man¹s blood cried from the ground for vengeance. Christ
was not like Abel. The blood of Christ appeals to heaven for mercy for his
slayers. The blood of Christ shouts from the ground what Jesus shouted from
the cross. ³Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.² (Luke
23:34)

To Do:

The forgiveness of God is our motive to forgive one another. In, Finding
Freedom in Forgiveness, Dan Ledwith asserts that forgiveness is the ³secret
that will change your life. Dan is right. He affirms that, ³the faith of the
Christian is centered on the simplest and most beautiful of words, forgiven.
Love is wonderful, butŠforgiveness is love in action.² Does God love the
world? Did Christ die on the cross? The Bible answers the first question yes
because it answers yes to the second question. The question is what do we
answer to that first question and why? And do we live out the love of Christ
by loving each other with a forgiving spirit?
