<Sigh> Here we go again, with another of Julian Fantino's "name and shame"
campaigns, led by one of Ontario's most sleazy cops.

If I recall correctly, this is the third time that he's done this. His first
such campaign was during Operation Snowball, the Canadian arm of Operation
Landslide/Ore.

As some of you may recall, James LeCraw was one of those parties named and
shamed by Chief Fantino. The Crown decided to drop the charges against
Mr. LeCraw, but the attendant publicity surrounding the original name and
shame press conference absolutely destroyed his reputation. He lost his job,
his friends, his home, and ultimately, his will to live. He committed
suicide a little over a year after Fantino's press-conference.

This kind of activity makes a mockery of the justice system. Nothing like
trying someone in the media before they get their day in court. James LeCraw
had his day in court, and the charges were withdrawn, but the damage was
already done. As he stated in the note left for his family:

"There is no such thing as innocence, just unproven guilt."
