That's nice to my eye. With hardware stretch this was messed as the miage was stretched _after_ applying scanlines, thus you had scanlines of different height because of interpolation. With newer mame revision, the scanlines png is superimposed on the graphics after stretching, the result is that if, for example, pixels are scaled 3 times and the scanline png has a different periodicity, you get scanlines in the middle of some pixels.
