howdy, i'm pretty new to the guitar and i have a question about playing chords. i've been playing a lot of open chords lately. i have a book called the beatles fake book and i was trying my hand at a song entitled "PS I love you". i was playing the first three chords which are all open chords: em7, c#7, and D my question is that i was reading my learning book and it recommend to play the chords with the thumb behind the neck. but i think that hooking it over the neck, like how i have seen hendrix, clapton, and just 'bout every other guitar player does it is more comfortable. so that's what i'm gonna do. what do you find it easier to play those chords, thumb behind the neck, or thumb over the neck like clapton does it? how would you recommend I do it as a beginner? also, when I hook the thumb over the neck to fret em7, when I move to the next open chord, C#7, I have a tendency to move the thumb so that it is pressed against the back of the neck, I guess because it's fingered a bit lower. but when I play the D major, which comes next, I move the thumb back up over the top. i guess i shouldn't be doing that with the C#7 chord since i should be able to play it with the thumb hooked over the top of the neck, right? it does seem like a lot of unnecessary hand movement to be moving the thumb up and down between these 3 chords. how would you do it? thanks for helping this clueless newbie,[ Auf dieses Posting antworten ]
