Why isn't this G add9?

In the grand scheme of things this doesn't matter, but it irks me that I still can't write an accurate chart for a song. I'm working on Ann Reed's "Gift of Age" (sample here: http://cdbaby.com/mp3lofi/annreed8-02.m3u), and I had charted the opening bit as Gadd9 - - - | Gadd9 - - - | Gadd9 - - - | C - - I just got a copy of her songbook, and she charts this as G - - D | G - - D | G - - D | C - - I sorta see how the A helps suggest a D chord (D F# A), but I hear it as a G major pick-up with the A hammer-on happening on beat 1. It's just not clicking how to get a D chord delayed until beat 4. Thanks, --Cliff (US)[ Auf dieses Posting antworten ]
