ATTN. Citizens of Louisiana
Mary Landrieu Is Against The Public Option, ...Landrieu may be key in
debate
Health-care reform is necessary to drive down costs for consumers and
businesses, but it must not be allowed to increase the federal debt,
Landrieu said.

No problem with starting American Empire wars though. Cost of war not
a problem.

Moderates in Congress have succeeded in making that principle a
priority, she said.

She said she backs more tax credits for small businesses and wants to
let small businesses pool together to buy insurance.

She opposes plans to require employers to pay for coverage. She also
wants to make sure reform legislation gives states more flexibility in
making their own health care changes.

"We cannot fall into this same old same old, one-size-fits all"
approach, she said.

Landrieu Comments on Health Care Meeting with Majority Leader Reid

WASHINGTON -- Earlier today, United States Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-
La., met with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., to share her
concerns about the ongoing health care reform debate. After the
meeting, Sen. Landrieu made the following statement:

"I want to commend Leader Reid for the time he has taken to meet
individually with Democratic Senators to hear each of our concerns
personally. I appreciate his leadership in helping us find a way
forward to a principled compromise that will help us reach our goal of
increasing the number of affordable health care options for all
Americans. And, I'm grateful that he clearly understands we must reach
these goals in a manner that will drive the cost of health care down
for government, businesses and families.

"During the meeting, I conveyed to Leader Reid that a number of
moderates still were extremely concerned about a government-run,
taxpayer-funded, national public plan. However, I am encouraged that
the conversations taking place over the past week among Senators who
back different versions of a public option could potentially lead to a
compromise. I believe this compromise should happen sooner, rather
than later, so we can get to work on other critical aspects of heath
care reform, such as out-of-control premiums, denial of coverage for
pre-existing conditions, gender discrimination and antitrust
exemption. These are important issues that deserve serious
consideration and should not be overshadowed by the current all-
consuming discussion of the public option that is dominating Capitol
Hill.

"I also expressed to Leader Reid the unique challenges Louisiana is
facing in terms of Medicaid and the special concerns I have about
teaching hospitals. He understood these challenges and seemed willing
to consider different ways to help us address these problems."
