medical fraud made for great tv. The piece featured an interview with
a disguised fraudster, provided good footage of empty store-front
medical suppliers that were billing millions and even included a minor
confrontation with a Medicare anti-fraud manager about the lousy job
she and the government are doing to combat fraud. And there were no
shortages of memorable quotes. From an FBI agent: “We have seen cases
in the last six, eight months that involve a couple of guys that if
they weren’t stealing from Medicare might be stealing your car.” From

Four pharmacists in N.J. charged in $2.3 Medicaid scam
October 27, 2009, Trenton, NJ -- Seven people, including four
pharmacists, and three pharmacies, were indicted Monday on charges
they conspired to defraud Medicaid of more than $2.3 million dollars,
state Attorney General Anne Milgram announced. The indictments are the
result of Operation PharmScam, an investigation conducted by the state
Office of Insurance Fraud Prosecutor's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit,
the Jersey City police, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Office
of Criminal Investigations and the state Division of Taxation. The
investigation uncovered a scheme in which pharmacy owners and
employees bought completed prescription forms for HIV/AIDS drugs and
other expensive medicines from indigent patients so Medicaid, Medicare

Trio charged in Houston in $45M physical therapy scam
October 27, 2009, Houston, TX -- A 51-count superseding indictment
charging three additional defendants for allegedly conspiring with
Umawa Oke Imo to commit health care fraud and other offenses arising
from a $45 million health care fraud scheme has been unsealed, United
States Attorney Tim Johnson and Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott
announced today. Imo, 54, born in the Federal Republic of Nigeria and
owner of City Nursing Services of Texas Inc., has been in federal
custody without bond since June 26, 2009, awaiting trial on 36 counts
of conspiracy, health care fraud, mail fraud and money laundering.
