Went to see this not knowing quite what to expect, but that Hancock (Will Smith) is some type of anti-superhero. Sure enough, it starts out that way, but the plot becomes quite sophisticated later on, when the derelict Hancock meets up with the Embrey family. Do superheroes get paid for what they do? or is the acclamation of the mob sufficient reward? Of course, if you are wealthy, like Bruce Wayne (Batman) then payment doesn't matter, but if you are poor, you may stay poor. Which is where Hancock is - he rescues people, but in such a careless and destructive way that the mob tend to boo him. Not that he cares - unless you call him an arsehole once too often. But back to the main theme. The one person who is grateful for Hancock saving his life is Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman) who decides to do Hancock a favour in return... I went to see this film only to discover that one of my favourite actresses, Charlize Theron, is there, as wife, Mary Embrey. She plays a more significant role than you might expect - which she would approve of, as I seem to remember her balking at being a mere appendage to male leads. Overall, if you like superhero movies, this should be quite satisfactory, as yet another variant on the theme. It would seem to have Terminator Three as one of its inspirations, for two reasons. Also, having just seen "Happy-Go-Lucky", I was interested to see Eddie Marsan again, here as the chief villain. (See Charlize, as waitress Billie Tyler, in the comedic "Trial and Error", where she has more of a controlling effect than at first appreciated - all because of a Paradise Manhattan.)[ Auf dieses Posting antworten ]
