KAW (2007) loosely based upon THE BIRDS?

I recently watched KAW (2007) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0491005/
and enjoyed it.

This is not really a remake of Hitchcock's THE BIRDS
anymore than Hitchcock's film is a faithful dramatization of Daphne
du Maurier's short story. However, whether they admit it or not, it
is loosely based upon the ideas behind Hitchcock's movie and Daphne
du Maurier's short story. You'll find no Mitch or Melanie in this
film or a story even approximating the one told in the Hitchcock
movie. However, to be fair, Hitchcock took only the basic idea of the
bird attacks from du Maurier's short story.

This movie is rated very poorly in the IMDB at around 4 out of 10.
However, considering that this is a very low budget attempt at making
a ravens attacking people movie, I think it is a very good job.

Even today with the advances in technology, making a movie as intense
as required by this type of film is monumental. For a relatively
inexperienced director to do it on a limited budget is a substantial
achievement. To do it with a story that is reasonably enjoyable and
with some quite well developed suspense moments is excellent. For
these two reasons, I can say that this film was an enjoyable
experience for me.

My limited praise aside, this really is not a great or even an good
movie. It is watchable at best but I still enjoyed it if for no
reasons other than I give it points for effort, suspense and story.
If you are a horror movie devotee, you will likely look down on this
movie as a pitiful effort compared to be best films recently in that
genre.

In the film are many silly implausible events but let's face it,
Hitchcock was not immune to silly implausible plot elements. One only
has to look at NxNW to see many of them.

Look for 77 year old Rod Taylor, who played Mitch Brenner in the
Hitchcock film. In KAW, he plays one of the central characters,
Doc.

Your comments about this or other remakes will be appreciated.

Best wishes, Vic
