Whether there's support of not, I find it TOTALLY PLAUSIBLE.  Why
wouldn't the torturers want other prisoners to hear the screams of some
of the people they torture.  It heightens the fear and thus the control.
But some they would set aside and never touch, to undermine morale.  Why
isn't Joe getting it?  What is he telling them?  Can we trust him?

That's what I'd do if I was the kind of sadistic bastard who tortures
prisoners.

Of course I'm not.
