OT: 'Dangerous' Afro-Caribean killer, 18, Killed English man

A teenager has been jailed for life for stabbing to death his
girlfriend's 22-year-old brother in Brighton.

Judge Richard Brown told Aaron Aymer, 18, at Lewes Crown Court, that
he was one of the most dangerous men he had ever come across.

David Stunell, of Desmond Way, Brighton, was stabbed during an
incident in the city on 28 July 2007.

Aymer, from Wapping in east London, was sentenced to life with a
recommendation that he serve at least 16 years.

Judge Brown said: "The fact remains this was a horrendous and wicked
act of mindless violence.

"You have taken the life of a thoroughly decent and hard-working young
man and devastated the life of his family."

A jury at Lewes Crown Court found Aymer guilty in April of murdering
David Stunell.

The court heard a row broke out in Montpelier Crescent where Mr
Stunell confronted Aymer about his relationship with his sister,
Hayley Stunell.

As Mr Stunell bent forward to speak to Aymer, who was sitting in the
passenger seat of Hayley's car, the teenager slashed his neck with a
kitchen knife.

An off-duty doctor and a member of ambulance staff tried to stop the
bleeding but Mr Stunell was later pronounced dead at the Royal Sussex
County Hospital.

Aymer, who had denied murder, claimed he was acting in self defence
and had stabbed Mr Stunell accidentally and then fled in panic.

'Lie after lie'

His defence counsel Nigel Sweeney read out a statement in which Aymer
expressed guilt and regret for his actions.

But during the sentencing, Judge Brown said he had an "appalling
record" and had told "lie after lie" to avoid being found guilty.

Outside the court Hayley Stunell, 19, said: "People like him should
not be on the streets."

Aymer was also given six years detention and four years extended
license for wounding with intent, to be served concurrently.

Det Ch Insp Graham Pratt, who led the investigation for Sussex Police,
said: "David's mother Carol, his family and his many, many friends
have had their lives devastated by this needless act of violence."

Brighton and Hove's police commander, Ch Supt Paul Pearce added:
"Aaron Aymer, who was visiting his girlfriend in Brighton at the time
he stabbed Mr Stunell, was an habitual carrier of knives with a long
history of using them.

"It is quite right that Aymer has been handed this very lengthy
sentence for his actions which resulted in such a calculated murder."
