A priest has been removed from the Albany Roman Catholic Diocese after being
accused of sexually abusing a minor more than 20 years ago. Reverend Gary
Mercure has been permanently removed from the ministry by Bishop Howard J.
Hubbard. He can't publicly act as a priest under Hubbard's ruling.

Mercure has been on leave since January when the Diocese received a
complaint that he had engaged in sexual acts with a minor in the mid 1980s.

Mercure has served in parishes in Albany, Troy, Glens Falls and Latham.
