It is known that if a child doesn't understand something he or she is being taught, the child can begin to fidget and cease to pay attention. If the teacher fails to notice this and carries on past the misunderstanding without clearing it up with the child, the child's behavior will deteriorate. The child then is accused of "not paying attention" or in psychiatric psycho-babble, is said to have "an attention deficit."
