John Trevor's "Sky Dance" was issued in 1972 on "There Is Some Fun Going Forward", the last LP from John Peel's Dandelion label. A hippie- trippy kind of track, the song received more than its fair share of airplay on "progressive" radio stations across Europe. The backing band on this recording was Tractor from Rochdale, Lancashire. What very few people knew about however -- and fewer still had heard -- was a totally different recording of "Sky Dance", put down a couple of weeks prior to its better-known floral cousin. Totally unlike the released version, "Sky Dance (Take One)" was a hard-edged rock song. Now, thirty-six years on, that first version can be seen and heard on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZqc5PzRJ-8. For the record, John Trevor had previously worked with Tractor in 1971 when he recorded his "Creation" album for Dandelion. At that time, he was Beau and Tractor were The Way We Live. But it was the same team -- John Trevor, Jim Milne, Steve Clayton and John Brierley -- who came together early in 1972 to lay down a fresh collection of JT songs for a possible new Dandelion album. In the event, Dandelion folded in late 1972; but not before one track from those sessions saw light of day. That was take two of "Sky Dance". Now we can hear the missing "Sky Dance (Take One)".
