The world of television had seen science fiction before, the more popular of the genre at the time being the CBS series, Lost in Space, a space version of Swiss Family Robinson which was starting it's third season. Shows had come and gone over the years, but no one could is their wildest predictions have foreseen what was being born that day, the phenomenon that is Star Trek.
