Carole,
I think no rents are higher anywhere than in san frnacisco and santa
cruz (well and Manhatten).  just for the fun of it, go on craigslist
and select bay area and look at the santa cruz rents-keep in mind that
those houses going for 3 and 5 thousand dollars a month are not
special-they just are houses.
