Yes, losing weight and exercise do seem to help, in terms of what is termed as insulin resistance, but the damage to the pancreas is done. Some current research does seem to suggest that there may be some hope in the future for restoration of the beta cells of the pancreas. Nothing solid to go on for us, as yet.
