Forest Park police have arrested a man they say fired rounds into a Forest Park church early this morning. A police officer on patrol nearby heard shots fired in the area of Word of Deliverance Church on Fresno Road just after one this morning. The officer stopped a car pulling out of the parking lot. The man behind the wheel, 29 year old Jerry Raines was arrested after the officer smelled gunpowder and saw empty shell casings in the car. A full search of the vehicle turned up 37 spent shell casings, a 9 millimeter handgun, and a full magazine. Raines apparently admitted to shooting at the church and told police he did it because he is tired of people saying, "In the name of Jesus" and does not believe in Jesus. Raines is charged with carrying concealed weapon, desecration of church, and improper transport of firearms in motor vehicle. He is behind bars at the Hamilton County Justice Center.
