Pronunciation of "algae"?

Watching the BBC's "Pacific Abyss", I just noticed that the narrator
pronounces "algae" with /g/.  Merriam-Webster Online only gives the
/dZ/ pronunciation.  By contrast, Cambridge Advanced Learner's
Online only has /g/.  Is this a pondian difference?
