DVP642 and A/V sync discrepancies

Here is an interesting issue that crops up once in a while:

I have the audio from a DVP642 hooked up to both a TV (RCA L-R) and a
surround sound system (digital coax).  The problem is that on rare occasions,
I get an AVI whose audio and video are in-sync TO THE TV, but are a second or
two out-of-sync TO THE STEREO.

Now, it's not just my setup, because I tried it with my friend's system and
it happens there, also.

Is there something to look for in the AVI that will tell me it will be out-
of-sync with the stereo system?
