Looking for info on sony rdr-vxd655

Does anyone know if you can set the "timer" to choose the "front"
inputs
(input 2).
I read the manual online but it does not say one way or the other.
It is the only s-video input on the machine.
I would hate to buy it, and find out that the only way to record from my
satelite dish is the crappy single composite on the back.
